Milliamp measures your phone's battery, temperature, storage, memory and sensors. None of those measurements ever leave your device. There is no account, no login, no advertising identifier and no advertising.
The app does send anonymous usage and crash reports, so we know how many people use it and whether it is crashing. Those reports contain no measurement of your phone and nothing that identifies you.
Everything the app measures:
This data is written to a private database inside the app's own storage, which no other app can read. It is excluded from Android Backup and from device-to-device transfer, deliberately: a battery history describes one physical battery, and restoring it onto another handset would show you another device's readings as your own.
Uninstalling Milliamp deletes all of it.
Milliamp uses two Google services, Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They are active from first launch.
Firebase Analytics receives:
now, drain,
heat, checkFirebase Crashlytics receives, only when the app crashes or hits an internal error:
Firebase Analytics never receives any measurement Milliamp makes. Every event the app can log carries a screen name or a feature name and nothing else. No battery reading, no temperature, no app list, no storage or memory figure, and no hardware test result is ever transmitted.
The app explicitly sets no user identifier of ours (setUserId is set to null), and
explicitly denies Google's advertising consent signals — ad storage, ad user data and ad
personalisation are all set to denied on every launch. The advertising ID permission that
Firebase would otherwise add is removed from the app's manifest, so the app
cannot read your advertising ID even if it tried to.
The Firebase installation ID is a random value generated on your device. It is not derived from your hardware, and it is reset if you clear the app's data or reinstall the app.
Data is sent to Google over TLS. Google's handling of it is described in the Firebase Privacy and Security page and the Google Privacy Policy.
Milliamp is published by a very small independent developer. The usage and crash reports are the only way to know whether the app works on the thousands of Android device models it has to run on, and whether an update broke something. Because they carry nothing about you or about your phone's readings, we collect them from everyone rather than from the minority who would opt in — an opt-in sample would mostly tell us about the devices least likely to be broken.
If you would rather not send them, the honest answer is not to install the app.
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES. The app declares narrower package visibility — it can
see apps that have a launcher icon, so the drain leaderboard can show a name and icon instead
of a bare package name. It cannot see apps without one, and it never transmits your
app list| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Notifications | The charge alarm, the hot-charging alert and the optional live readout. |
Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) | To attribute battery drain and thermal events to the app that was in the foreground. This is Android's sanctioned alternative to reading your whole app list, and it is optional — the app works without it, with a less specific leaderboard. |
| Microphone | The speaker and microphone test only, and only while that test is running. |
| Vibration | The haptics test. |
| Run at startup | To resume battery sampling after a reboot. |
| Foreground service | To record measurements while your phone is charging. It stops when charging stops. |
| Network access | Used only by Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, above. |
Milliamp is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone, of any age.
Because the app holds no account and no identifier tied to you, we hold nothing that can be looked up by name or by email address.
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this same URL with a new date at the top, and the change will be described in the app's release notes on Google Play.
